Arsenal are reportedly considering a surprise move to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.
Lookman, 26, had an outstanding season with the Italian club last year, notching 27 goal contributions across all competitions. As Arsenal look to strengthen their attacking options and close the gap on Manchester City, they have identified Lookman as a potential key addition.
Sportitalia reports that Arsenal are preparing a £43m bid for the Nigerian international. Additionally, the north London club is contemplating including out-of-favor defender Jakub Kiwior in the deal. Kiwior, who impressed for Poland at Euro 2024, could either move to Atalanta permanently or join them on loan with an option to buy.
Since joining Arsenal in 2023, Kiwior has struggled for playing time, making just 11 league starts last season. However, Atalanta are said to be seeking around £60m for Lookman, which could complicate the proposed swap deal.
Lookman has also been linked with a move to PSG, although no formal offers from the Parisian club have been made yet. Arsenal may also face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are reportedly interested in Lookman before the transfer deadline.
Having previously played in the Premier League with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester, Lookman has enjoyed his most successful period with Atalanta, helping them win the Europa League last season with a memorable hat-trick in the final.
With two years left on his contract with Atalanta, the club might offer him a new deal to persuade him to stay.
Arsenal have yet to make significant attacking signings this summer, though they have bolstered their defense with Riccardo Calafiori and the permanent acquisition of David Raya from Brentford. Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino is also reportedly nearing a move to the Emirates.
In terms of departures, Emile Smith Rowe recently joined Fulham, and Eddie Nketiah is expected to move to Nottingham Forest.
