Virgil van Dijk turned 32 on Saturday, and he celebrated in big style with DJ Calvin Harris in Ibiza, a birthday party he will never forget.
Liverpool’s defensive stalwart is now the fourth-oldest member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but he is quick to point out that he still has plenty of years in his legs.
After an unsuccessful season, Van Dijk, like the bulk of his Liverpool teammates, took advantage of the summer break, and he celebrated one more time before returning for pre-season.
It includes Ibiza, Kevin De Bruyne, and an invitation to the stage during Calvin Harris’ set – there are few better ways to celebrate turning 32.
The Dutchman was evidently delighted and overwhelmed by his introduction to the stage on Friday night, describing it as “crazy” – and who could blame him.
The Liverpool squad has built a strong friendship with Harris since he served as DJ for the trophy procession in 2022, with Harvey Elliott also spotted with him over the summer.
Van Dijk’s birthday celebrations came just days before he returns to pre-season on Tuesday, where he will be reunited by his international teammates after being granted an extra three days off.
Liverpool’s number four will first go through a series of fitness tests, including the lactate test, before joining the group for their training camp in Germany.
Klopp should be without only Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott after their U21 Euro victory starting Tuesday, and the boss will have 33 days until his squad travels to Stamford Bridge for the league opener.
