Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Juventus to secure Federico Chiesa at a bargain price. The forward, who can operate as either a winger or a central attacker, is being sold following his exclusion by new Juventus manager Thiago Motta. Expectations were high when Chiesa joined Juventus four years ago, but he has netted just 32 goals in 131 appearances, and the team has failed to win a Serie A title since his arrival.
Chiesa is now available for just £12.5 million, a steep drop from the £45 million Juventus paid Fiorentina for him. Chelsea has been keeping an eye on Chiesa as a potential backup option if they fail to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. However, Liverpool appears to be leading the race for Chiesa’s signature, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the player is open to the move.
Arne Slot, who has been at Anfield for 86 days, has yet to make any new signings. Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to join Liverpool for £25 million but will stay with his current club until 2025. Chiesa could become Slot’s first addition to the squad. Despite having five forwards—Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz—Liverpool’s midfield appears understrength, especially after their unsuccessful bid for Spain’s Martin Zubimendi. Slot seems keen to add another attacker, and Liverpool aims to complete the deal before the transfer window closes on Friday.
