This weekend, Arsenal will face a challenging away match against Tottenham at the North London derby as part of the fourth round of the Premier League. However, the Gunners have received some disappointing news regarding their captain, Martin Ødegaard.
This morning, on September 10, the Norway national team secured a 2-1 victory over Austria in their second Nations League match, thanks to goals from Myhre and Erling Haaland. Unfortunately, the joy was tempered by an injury to midfielder Martin Ødegaard, who was forced to leave the field in the 67th minute after sustaining an injury.
During a contested play, Ødegaard experienced an issue with his ankle. The medical team promptly attended to him, but after a period of treatment, he had to exit the pitch. Two members of the Norwegian medical staff had to support Ødegaard as he limped off the field, visibly distressed.
Norwegian coach Ola Solbakken updated on Ødegaard’s condition post-match, stating, “Martin Ødegaard’s injury does not look promising in the dressing room.” Meanwhile, the medical team confirmed: “Ødegaard has a sprained ankle. We will consider using an ultrasound to determine the extent of the injury. To get a clearer picture, we may perform an MRI tomorrow.”
The injury to Ødegaard is an unwelcome setback, and it is certainly causing concern for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and the fans, especially with the upcoming North London derby against Tottenham this weekend, where Arsenal will be playing away. Arsenal had already identified six other key players who would be absent for the Spurs match.
Ødegaard is a crucial player for Arsenal, serving as captain and starting in all three Premier League matches this season. In the first two games, he played the full 90 minutes, helping Arsenal secure wins against Wolves and Aston Villa. In the third match against Brighton, he played 73 minutes before Arsenal had to settle for a draw.
Since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2021, Martin Ødegaard has proven to be one of the team’s key players. In 156 appearances, he has scored 35 goals and provided 25 assists. Last season, he delivered an impressive performance with 11 goals and 11 assists, but Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City, just two points behind.
