Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has hinted that the club is preparing for a future without Mohamed Salah. Despite Salah being a target for the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023, he remained at Anfield. With only a year remaining on his current contract and the possibility of leaving on a free transfer in 2025, Liverpool are reportedly assessing potential replacements.
In an interview with Abema Sports Time, Endo revealed that Liverpool are actively seeking a successor for Salah, stating, “The search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah has begun, so this is becoming a real area for Liverpool to strengthen.”
Endo went further by suggesting who he believes would be an ideal replacement for Salah: “I think the player who can replace him, in the national team, would be [Takefusa] Kubo.”
So, who is Takefusa Kubo?
A 23-year-old right-winger, Kubo’s career has seen him pass through notable clubs. He spent time at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before joining Real Madrid on a five-year contract. Initially expected to join Real Madrid’s B team, Kubo was loaned out to RCD Mallorca and later to Villarreal and Getafe to gain first-team experience.
In 2022, Kubo signed with Real Sociedad, becoming the club’s first Japanese player. Since then, he has made a significant impact, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists in 85 appearances. His performances, including Champions League experience, suggest he could be ready for a major role if given the opportunity.
As Liverpool eyes potential replacements for Salah, Kubo’s blend of experience and promise might make him a strong candidate for the Reds’ future plans.
