Manager Jürgen Klopp Returns to Borussia Dortmund for Tribute Match, Expresses Joy at Reconnecting with Old Club
Jürgen Klopp made a heartwarming return to Borussia Dortmund for a tribute match honoring two of the club’s legends, and he couldn’t hide his delight at being back with his old team in Germany.
After stepping down from Liverpool in May, Klopp unexpectedly re-entered the coaching scene, albeit temporarily, to manage Dortmund for this special event. The match was held to celebrate the careers of Polish stars Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski, both of whom played pivotal roles during Klopp’s successful tenure with the club.
Following the game, Klopp shared his emotional experience: “Returning to Dortmund feels like coming home. I’ve always said that if we had managed to keep the talented players from the past, Dortmund could have achieved even more success.”
“It’s a pity that didn’t happen, but everything today was still fantastic. The match felt like a reunion with old friends. I’ve eagerly awaited this day—to return in the same colors and share personal stories. The packed stands of Signal Iduna Park rekindled so many cherished memories.”
Post-match, Klopp moved to the stands at Signal Iduna Park and celebrated with an emotional gesture, raising his arms and punching the air. This gesture not only left a strong impression but also hinted at the possibility of his return to Dortmund in the future, recreating those memorable celebratory moments.
Klopp reflected: “The emotions are indescribable; this place holds so many beautiful memories for me. Returning to Dortmund feels like a dream come true. I hope to experience this feeling once again someday.”
Currently, Jürgen Klopp has no plans to return to coaching. He is taking time to rest and explore other sports beyond football.
