As we approach the crucial stages of the season, brands are already turning their attention to next season by distributing prototype boots to their leading players for feedback. Gabriel Jesus is the latest to test out a blackout version of the upcoming adidas X 20+.
The Manchester City striker has been wearing the adidas X 19+ throughout the current season, having also worn the X 18+ previously. His experience with these models positions him well to provide valuable insights into the next-generation edition, which is anticipated to launch before the summer—assuming EURO 2020 proceeds as planned. For now, the prototype remains in a blackout colorway to conceal any distinct technological advancements or color schemes.
The new model maintains the laceless design that has become a hallmark of adidas boots this season. The Brazilian’s prototype features a sleek, all-over upper with a slightly redesigned, straighter-cut laceless ‘tongue’ area, likely aimed at enhancing fit and snugness around the top of the foot. While the X series will continue to be adidas’s speed boot option with its lightweight design, significant tech changes are not expected. However, adidas might introduce a more striking aesthetic to distinguish the X 20+ from the current X 19+ series. For now, though, adidas has no immediate plans to release the X 20+.
