Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann has been stopped for suspected drink-driving while wearing lederhosen after enjoying drinks at Oktoberfest. The 54-year-old, who was a key part of the famous ‘Invincibles’ team, was seen partying at the Bavarian beer festival in Munich. According to reports, he was pulled over by police after exhibiting unsteady behavior and smelling of alcohol.
Breathalyzer tests were abandoned because he was unable to provide a sample, leading to him being taken to a police station for further evaluation. His driver’s license was confiscated as part of standard procedure while the investigation continues.
Earlier at the festival, Lehmann was photographed in traditional Bavarian attire, enjoying beer with friends. A source noted that police are present at Oktoberfest to deter drink driving.
Public prosecutor Anne Leiding stated that Lehmann was stopped around 1:30 a.m. on September 23, 2024, due to erratic driving in central Munich. She mentioned that police detected a strong smell of alcohol and unsafe driving, leading to a blood test after breath tests proved inconclusive.
Lehmann, who finished third with Germany in the 2006 World Cup, has had several run-ins with law enforcement in recent years. In December 2023, he was fined £400,000 for chainsawing his neighbor’s garage roof for a better view of Lake Starnberg. He has also faced legal issues for attempting to dodge parking fees at Munich Airport and was dropped by Stuttgart in 2009 for attending Oktoberfest without permission.
A frequent attendee of the festival, he has previously been spotted there with notable figures like Sol Campbell and Didier Drogba. Lehmann is also known for being the first player sent off in a European Cup final after fouling Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o in 2006.
