Mohamed Salah is facing criticism from some of his Muslιmfollowers after sharing a photo with his family in front of a Christmas tree.
The Liverpool star, who practices Islam, captioned the image with ‘#MerryChristmas’.
As part of their annual tradition, he, his wife Magi, and daughters Makka and Kayan posed in matching pajamas, smiling by their tree alongside a gingerbread figure.
While Muslims typically do not celebrate Christmas, some do engage in the festivities associated with the holiday.
“You let me down, bro,” commented one user on Instagram, where Salah posted the image to his 63.7 million followers.
“Delete this right now,” urged another, while a third added: “At this point, I’m just disappointed in you, bro.”
Salah has again encountered backlash from his Muslιmfollowers after continuing his yearly practice of posting a Christmas tree photo.
This season, Salah has been in exceptional form, scoring 15 goals in the Premier League to date.
Fans criticized the Egypt star on Instagram and X under the photo he shared on his accounts.
However, others defended him, extending their well wishes for the Christmas season.
One commented: “We Muslιmpeople look up to you, and you do this in return,” along with three crying emojis.
Supporters rallied behind Salah, with one fan posting: “Merry Christmas, Mo. Ignore these idiots. Wishing you and your family a well-deserved holiday season.”
Another wrote: “Every year on Christmas Day, I enjoy reading the comments on this post for an hour. It never disappoints.”
Salah has been in remarkable form this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists, leading the golden boot race.
After an impressive performance against Tottenham in Liverpool’s last match, he became the first Premier League player to achieve 10 goals and assists before Christmas.
He is set to play against Leicester on Boxing Day, yet that hasn’t prevented fans from criticizing him beneath his post.
One follower remarked: “Despite all the warnings, you still posted this disgraceful picture. May Allah guide you to the right path. From now on, I will unfollow and block you. You are shameful. I will stop watching Liverpool matches forever.”
Another added: “Mark my words, you won’t score again this season for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the entire Muslιmcommunity.”
His Christmas posts have sparked outrage from Muslιmfollowers annually, as seen previously in 2023.
Nonetheless, he shows no signs of stopping this tradition with his family.
This comes amid ongoing uncertainty regarding his contract, which expires at the end of the season, alongside those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
In November, he told a small group of reporters, including Mail Sport’s Lewis Steele, that he was “more out than in.”
“We’re nearing December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay at the club. I’m probably more out than in,” he stated.
“I’ve been at the club for many years. There’s no place like this. But ultimately, it’s not in my hands. As I mentioned, it’s December, and I have yet to hear about my future.
“I love the fans, and they love me. Ultimately, it’s not just in my hands or the fans’ hands.”
Liverpool has since offered the star a contract, but terms have yet to be agreed upon.
