Negotiations are set to continue this week with Rashford’s representatives. Dortmund has a solid relationship with Manchester United and aims to structure a deal similar to the one used for Jadon Sancho last season.

AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed their interest, stating, “I know Marcus well; I played with him when he was young. It is not an easy operation, but we have not spoken to him yet. We’ll see if we will speak to him.”

Dortmund is close to completing the sale of Donyell Malen to Aston Villa and has also considered loan deals for Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka and Brentford’s Kevin Schade, but Rashford remains their top priority.

Rashford is available on loan after falling out of favor under United boss Ruben Amorim. United values him at around £60 million, with a salary exceeding £350,000 a week.

Dortmund’s head coach Nuri Sahin is eager to bring Rashford on board, and any deal will likely focus on which club is willing to cover most of his wages. The arrangement might mirror Sancho’s loan, where the suitor pays more based on performance and appearances.

Other clubs, including Monaco and West Ham, have also shown interest in Rashford.

His last appearance for United was on December 12 against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. Rashford, a product of United’s academy, has made 426 senior appearances, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists.

After being initially left out by Amorim, Rashford expressed openness to a new challenge away from United. Amorim later questioned Rashford’s advisors, suggesting that the forward hadn’t personally made that statement.

“It is a hard situation,” Amorim commented. “I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, and they sometimes make choices that are not the first idea from the player. I understand; I can separate things. I am always here to help Marcus, as any other player.”

Rashford’s current contract with United runs until the summer of 2028, but his future appears to be away from the club. United’s next match is against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, but Rashford wasn’t seen traveling with the squad for the game. He also missed the previous match against Liverpool due to illness, although Amorim noted that Rashford has since recovered and is now available for selection.
