BLOCKBUSTER DEAL: Viktor Gyokeres is Liverpool’s main target to replace Darwin Nunez

Liverpool are reportedly considering replacing Darwin Núñez if he fails to show significant improvements in his form this season, with Viktor Gyökeres identified as the top target to take his place.

Núñez has had an inconsistent run during his two seasons at Liverpool, netting nine goals in his first season and 11 last term, along with eight assists. So far this season, Diogo Jota has been favored as the starting striker for all but one match, with Núñez managing just one goal in his sole league start against Bournemouth.

The Uruguayan striker will need to prove he deserves a more regular starting position, or he could face being shown the door, according to reports from Caught Offside. While manager Arne Slot is currently backing Núñez, there is an openness to finding a replacement at the end of the season if his performance does not improve.

Liverpool’s interest in Gyökeres is further fueled by the possibility of a transfer battle, given his outstanding form and the interest from other major clubs. While there are suggestions that Ollie Watkins is also admired by Liverpool, his value at Aston Villa and contract situation make him a less realistic option.

Ultimately, if Liverpool decides to revamp their attacking lineup, Gyökeres could lead the charge, provided they can outmaneuver their rivals in the transfer market.
