Following Joshua Zirkzee’s mocking jeering off the field against Newcastle, Harry Maguire has disclosed that he sent him a message.
In the final game of 2024, Ruben Amorim substituted the Dutch striker barely 33 minutes into the game, and the Toon defeated Manchester United 2-0.
Zirkzee stormed down the tunnel after the move was welcomed with jeering applause, only to reappear a few minutes later.
Maguire has experienced comparable low periods throughout his tenure at United, including being scolded for subpar play and losing the captaincy to Erik ten Hag.
Since the incident, Zirkzee has performed well in games, and his teammate has supported him.
“After the game, I sent him a private message,” Maguire added.
Josh plays well, and if you’re not a decent player, you don’t play for this team.
“He must extract that confidence and assurance from himself.
“There’s always another game and a new opportunity in football.
Josh transformed the game for us when he came on against Arsenal, and he likely felt more confident and like he belonged at this football team after scoring the game-winning penalty.
“With him, the fans have been outstanding. Our fans are incredible and will always be there for us. They truly stand by you and help you through difficult times.
“Over the past few weeks, I have experienced that, and I have no doubt Josh has as well.
However, the team is more important than any one person. As a team, we are disappointed.
“We want to rise in the Premier League and compete at the highest level.
“But this season, ultimately, we have not been good enough.”
Although Zirkzee has been rumored to leave Manchester United for Juventus, it looks like he will remain with the Red Devils through the end of the current campaign.
