Marco Asensio from French champion PSG has officially joined Aston Villa on a loan until the end of the current campaign.
The Parisians now have a deal with the 29-year-old Spain international till June 2026. He has been there since arriving at PSG from Real Madrid in July 2023.
The deal does not include a buyout option, and Villa is said to pay Asensio’s salary.
After top scorer Jhon Duran left for Al Nassr with £65 million, Villa manager Unai Emery has been anxious to strengthen their attack.
The team signed Asensio after bringing in Marcus Rashford, a striker for Manchester United, on loan on Sunday night.
He joins Rashford, Donyell Malen, and Andres as Villa’s fourth winter transfer window addition.
After scoring 61 goals in 286 games for Real Madrid, three-time Champions League winner Asensio has scored seven goals in 47 games for PSG.
In Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round matchup against Tottenham, Asensio and Rashford might make their Villa debuts.
Unai Emery maintained that his squad needed to make reinforcements before the winter transfer window closed after Saturday night’s 2-0 loss to Wolves, and he believes that wish has been fulfilled.
After the game, he told the BBC, “We need some players.” Some of the players that left must be replaced. The final two days are Monday and tomorrow.
We’re in the Champions League round of 16, so I believe we’ll get some guys to aid us. We must attempt to earn points in the Premier League to be top eight, seven, six, five.’
