Ruben Amorim Sets His Premier Manchester United Transfer Target for January

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly identified his key transfer target for the upcoming January window: Nuno Mendes. Due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions, the club will have limited funds for new signings, meaning any significant acquisitions will depend on offloading players first.

One player linked with a move is Marcus Rashford, with AC Milan preparing a loan proposal that would cover his substantial £350,000-per-week salary. This potential departure could free up resources for Amorim to secure a replacement. Reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein indicate that Amorim is considering a loan offer for Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, though Kolo Muani is not seen as the primary target.

Instead, Nuno Mendes, currently at PSG, is at the top of Amorim’s wishlist. Mendes, who began his professional career under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, has been recognized for his versatility as both a left-back and left wing-back. His contract with PSG runs until 2026, but negotiations for a new deal have not yet been finalized, and the club remains hopeful he will choose to stay.

At just 22 years old, Mendes has emerged as one of the most promising talents in European football. However, United may have concerns regarding his injury history; since the start of the 2022/23 season, he has missed an astonishing 58 matches, primarily due to a significant hamstring injury.

Reports from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins suggest that Mendes is not opposed to a move to Old Trafford, potentially paving the way for Amorim to make an approach.
