Following the announcement that Lisandro Martinez had sustained a season-ending knee injury, Manchester United players honored the defender by donning special t-shirts.
During Sunday’s loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, Martinez injured his left knee’s cruciate ligament.
After the Argentine was carted off after the game, United verified the information earlier this week.
Although the club has not set a deadline for Martinez’s recovery, it is believed that the 27-year-old may miss up to six months of play.
Man United players were spotted wearing t-shirts with the Spanish phrase “Mucha Fuerza Licha” on them as they warmed up for their FA Cup matchup with Leicester at Old Trafford.
‘Lots of power, Licha’ is how the message is translated.
Due to problems from a broken metatarsal sustained at the end of his first season in England, the World Cup winner had already missed over three months of the previous campaign.
Given how important the central defense has been so far this season, Martinez’s injury is a huge setback for Man United.
Twenty of the Red Devils’ twenty-two Premier League games this season have been started by the Argentine.
This season, Martinez has made 32 appearances for the team in all competitions, including all eight of their Europa League games.
Martinez’s injury will take time to heal, Man United manager Ruben Amorim said prior to the team’s match against Leicester in the fourth round.
“Licha is a challenging situation,” Amorim remarked.
“We don’t know the extent of the injury, but it will take time, so he will be out for a while.”
