The highly regarded 17-year-old has been linked to the Red Devils ever since Ruben Amorim left Sporting to join them.

Ever since he was given the reins, Amorim has been determined to leave his mark, and Quenda’s name has been kicking about the club for some time.

Although there has been no official confirmation, reports previously stated that United and the Portuguese team had reached an agreement to purchase Quenda for £50 million.

United sent scouts to watch Quenda and were there in the stands as the winger for Sporting’s match against Porto on Friday, according to Record.

The report goes on to say that when the Red Devils play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night, they will continue to evaluate Quenda.

Quenda joined Sporting in 2019 at the age of 13 after spending time at the youth program of rivals Benfica.

Amorim saw Quenda’s talent right away, and at 16, he became the youngest player to ever play for Sporting’s reserve team.

After making an impression in a pre-season friendly, Quenda was added to Sporting’s first team at the beginning of the current campaign, and Amorim was gushing about his performance at right wing-back.

In July, Amorim told Sporting TV, “He’s very talented, very mature, and understands the game like an adult.”

“I think he had a great game and we have a player there, but he has a lot to improve on.”

Quenda, who is Guinea-Bissaun by birth, has played for Portugal internationally at both the U17 and U21 levels.

Quenda received his first senior call-up by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez in August for the Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland, although he did not play in either match.

After a rocky start to Amorim’s tenure at the club, United is presently ranked 13th in the standings.
