After waiting until “garbage time” to bring on teenage phenom Chido Obi-Martin, Manchester United supporters called Ruben Amorim a “COWARD.”
The 17-year-old was one of EIGHT young players who were substituted for United in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham.
Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo were among the senior players injured, therefore Ruben Amorim was forced to use United’s youth to make up the difference.
As his team tried to rally from a James Maddison opener in the 13th minute, the Red Devils manager was hesitant to make any substitutions.
In fact, by the time injury time arrived, Spurs had used all five of their substitutes.
In contrast, United had made absolutely no alterations to their weary squad.
However, Amorim made the risky decision to substitute Obi-Martin for Casemiro in the 91st minute.
After joining from Arsenal last summer, the teenage striker has been scoring goals for United’s U18 team and has even broken youth league records.
However, Obi-Martin was unable to have an influence on his senior debut with only a few minutes left in the match against Spurs.
Additionally, several fans took to the internet to criticize Amorim for taking so long to make the adjustment.
“You put Chido on in the ninetieth minute?” one person asked. You are a coward, Ruben!
“Chido Obi garbage time minutes,” said another.
“Should have been thirty minutes ago,” one person wrote.
“Unacceptable from Ruben and sends the wrong message completely,” exclaimed another.
“What was the point of bringing him on for three minutes?” declared one.
“I can’t forgive Amorim for not making a single substitute until the 90th minute,” another person remarked.
