Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp has shared the heartfelt note that Brentford striker Ivan Toney presented to him.
As a Liverpool fan, Toney conveyed to Klopp his support during their exchange after the match, which coincides with the increasing buzz surrounding Toney’s potential transfer. Klopp revealed that Toney’s significant message was, “I’m a Liverpool supporter,” emphasizing the connection between the two.
Toney confirmed his allegiance to Liverpool in the match program, approaching Klopp following the game.
“I was smiling at him because he’s quite a handful and tough to play against – though I used a different term,” Klopp explained. “Am I right that he supports Liverpool and makes no effort to hide it? I acknowledge that. We had a brief chat, and he wished me well for my future endeavors.”
Klopp noted that many have mentioned Toney’s support for Liverpool, including various players. “It’s not necessary, but it’s nice to hear. Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to watch the Premier League.”
“It was a pleasant conversation,” Klopp added. Toney is a prime target for several Premier League clubs in the upcoming transfer window, with Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for the striker.
Brentford is reportedly asking for over £80 million for Toney, who has returned to his scoring ways after serving a gambling ban.
Klopp mentioned that he had spoken with other Brentford players and found them just as enjoyable to converse with as they are challenging to face on the pitch.
“This is the oddest aspect of football,” Klopp remarked. “This is undoubtedly one of the best teams and coaching staffs you’ll encounter. When opposing them, you want to take them down every five seconds because it’s so frustrating. Everything is designed to make you look terrible. But beyond that, it’s a wonderful club, and I appreciate everything about it. Just don’t play against them!”
