Joshua Zirkzee, a striker for Manchester United, had another strong game for the team on Wednesday night as they defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Jaden Philogene scored United’s first goal after a disastrous miscommunication between goalie Andre Onana and Patrick Dorgu.
Matthijs de Ligt’s effort and Sam Morsy’s own goal put United ahead, but Dorgu was sent off for a harsh challenge on Omari Hutchinson. United’s situation worsened as Philogene’s cross slipped by Onana to give the visitors a quick equalizer.
However, Harry Maguire’s header just after the half was sufficient for Amorim to secure just his fifth league victory as Red Devils manager.
Several United players, including the two goal scorers Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro, put in strong performances.
Zirkzee was another who described themselves well. Although the forward’s first few games at United have not been flawless, he has shown indications of development in recent games, particularly when playing in the number 10 position behind the striker.
Zirkzee made an impression against Ipswich with a few of his touches, pass-making, hold-up play, and close ball control. He made good use of his body in a variety of circumstances, and his physicality also appears to have improved.
The Netherlands international won five of the duels he participated in and won all of his tackles while on the field.
He started four dribbles and recovered four balls.
In addition, the 23-year-old made twice as many interceptions and one clearing. He made one effort.
It wasn’t quite a masterclass, but he is getting better every week, and if he keeps going in this direction, it won’t be long before he blows up in a United shirt.
