Fulham eliminated Manchester United from the FA Cup after Rasmus Hojlund had yet another poor showing.
Rasmus Hojlund kept his starting position against Fulham on Sunday afternoon, demonstrating Ruben Amorim’s continued faith in the 22-year-old.
But more than anything else, that can be due to a lack of options. Amorim only included seven substitutes in his squad, which highlights how severely Manchester United has suffered from injuries once more.
Before being substituted by academy striker Chido Obi, who, to be honest, gave far more than his fellow Dane, Hojlund struggled once more against Fulham, managing just nine touches in 68 minutes.
Amorim has defended Hojlund, saying that the team as a whole should give him more opportunities. But in the end, his confidence appears to have been destroyed.
Rasmus Hojlund heard Ruben Amorim yelling at him. Because of his dismal season, Hojlund’s future at United is questionable, but to be honest, Amorim can only help him and work to improve things at this point.
Sam C reported that Amorim was “guiding” Hojlund through the game with “constant encouragement,” which is exactly what the United manager was attempting to accomplish at Old Trafford.
Encouraged by Amorim, Hojlund did get off to a really strong start in the game. He made good use of his physique to guard the ball, but he found it difficult to participate too frequently and ultimately became a passenger.
Although there are concerning indications that Hojlund’s progress is stagnating, Amorim still expects him to get better. He appears to be under a lot of pressure to be United’s first and only senior striker.
