The response from Arsenal supporters after Oleksandr Zinchenko’s goal against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night was remarkably similar.
At Emirates Stadium, Zinchenko gave the Gunners the lead in a match they were already winning 7-1 overall after just three minutes of play.
Social media was swiftly used by supporters to lament the Ukrainian’s refusal to celebrate against PSV.
“Zinchenko refusing to celebrate against a club he played 12 league games for,” someone posted on X, formerly Twitter. The game is over.
“Zinchenko doing the respect celebration,” someone else wrote. Give it up.
A third remarked that he “probably will never score a better goal” in reference to the irony of his inability to celebrate.
In the first moments of the match, he curled home a nice attempt from 20 yards out, but he refused to celebrate.
Zinchenko played 12 games for the Dutch team while on loan from Manchester City in the 2016–17 season, despite the fact that it may have drawn criticism on social media.
During his stay in Holland, he also played seven games for their reserve squad.
After winning 7-1 in the Netherlands last week, Mikel Arteta’s team was always in a strong position in the second leg, but they were soon pegged back at the Emirates.
After eighteen minutes, Ivan Perisic, a former Tottenham player, beat David Raya with a rising effort.
Just before halftime, however, Declan Rice’s stooping header gave the north Londoners their lead back.
Arsenal will face Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the round of eight, with an away trip to the Spanish capital imminent, if they are able to avoid a total surrender in the remaining time.
