Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
The Gunners had a strong victory Sunday, extending their winning record over the Blues to six matches.
With their first goal from a corner kick in two months, the home team took the lead.
Mikel Merino beat Blues goalie Robert Sanchez with a header that was precisely timed.
Despite some excellent opportunities, Arsenal was unable to double their lead. Leandro Trossard’s decision-making during the London derby was especially poor.
There were still many good things to take away from this. As an emergency striker, Merino scored his fifth league goal of the season. It was the decisive factor.
William Saliba was an outstanding member of Arsenal’s defensive core. He made a fantastic sliding challenge on Pedro Neto and easily handled Christopher Nkunku’s threat.
During the derby, the Frenchman had 70 touches and a 90 percent passing accuracy rate. He won all two of his tackles (2/2) and all three of his aerials (3/3).
In addition, he made two blocks, four recoveries, and four clearances. The central defender had a great performance. He had a fair amount of control over the events.
With nine games remaining, Arsenal’s lead over leaders Liverpool has shrunk to 12 points following their victory over Chelsea.
Liverpool has a certain edge, but the Gunners need to keep winning in order to take advantage of any losses the Reds may experience.
In the same week, Arne Slot’s team lost the Carabao Cup final and was eliminated from the Champions League.
Whether this affects their league results following the international break is still up in the air.
