Jorginho, a midfielder for Arsenal, is in advanced negotiations to join Flamengo.
After making an offer in December, the Brazilian team has made no secret of their intention to sign the 33-year-old, and they are now nearing an agreement on a free transfer.
Following his injury against Brentford last month, Jorginho has been recuperating from a punctured lung.
Jorginho, who was born in Brazil but migrated to Italy as a youth, has earned 57 caps for the Azzurri.
In 2023, he spent £12 million to join Arsenal from Chelsea.
In an attempt to bolster their midfield, Arsenal is in advanced negotiations to pay £60 million to Real Sociedad for Martin Zubimendi this summer.
They have begun negotiating a new contract for Thomas Partey.
Jorginho has made 78 appearances overall since moving from Stamford Bridge this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions and scoring one goal.
Mikel Arteta lauded the veteran earlier this season for helping to’make others better’ and being prepared to perform when needed.
“He has that quality,” Arteta remarked. I usually say that his ability to improve people is his greatest asset. It was the same last season.
We don’t play many midweek games, so there weren’t as many games at first, and he didn’t get as many minutes.
However, I advised him to be prepared because there would come a day when he must play, and it won’t be in a week; rather, it will be today or tomorrow.
“He is ready when he needs to play because of his excellent preparation.”
