Al-Hilal are reportedly planning a move for Darwin Núñez as soon as the summer transfer window opens on June 1, aiming to have the striker ready for the expanded Club World Cup.
The Liverpool No. 9 has found himself on the fringes under new manager Arne Slot, starting just eight Premier League matches this season and only once in 2025. Despite Liverpool rejecting a bid from Al-Nassr in January, the Saudi Pro League interest hasn’t faded.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Al-Hilal want Núñez signed and registered by June 1 to feature in FIFA’s new-look Club World Cup, which now includes 32 teams and offers a £30m prize for the winners.
There has been major speculation over Nunez’s future amid limited minutes under Arne Slot
Slot, who was reluctant to let Núñez leave mid-season while still chasing silverware, is now expected to be more open to selling the £85m striker signed from Benfica in 2022. Since joining, Núñez has managed 40 goals in 140 appearances, but his form has been inconsistent — including just one goal in his last 19 matches and seven goals with four assists in 42 games this season.
Notably, Núñez has consistently ranked among the top Premier League players for big chances missed, highlighting his struggles with finishing despite getting into good positions.
The report also mentions that Luis Díaz is another name on Al-Hilal’s radar. The Colombian winger, who has just two years left on his contract, has become a key figure under Slot thanks to his versatility and performances — contributing heavily to Liverpool’s 20th league title.
While Díaz has also drawn interest from Saudi Arabia, Liverpool are planning contract talks with him in the summer and may prioritize keeping him, especially given his recent impact.
