When Saka was just six years old and playing for the local team Greenford Celtic, Nixon noticed his brilliance for the first time. Saka revealed at their reunion that his parents continue to ask about Nixon, underscoring their enduring bond. Saka was even put through some previous training exercises by the instructor, who joked that “he’s still got it.”

Saka thanked him, stating, “It’s a privilege to connect with Colin once more. It’s rather pleasant to run across someone I know from the beginning of this journey. Nixon returned the favor, remembering how proud he was of Saka’s England debut.

Saka keeps his old Greenford Celtic shirt at home as a reminder of his origins and one of his most treasured mementos. “Coaches have a really big impact… if they create the right environment,” he said, underscoring the beneficial effects they have on young players.

Having climbed through Arsenal’s junior ranks, Saka made his senior debut in 2018. As he prepares for his 250th appearance for the club—where he has produced 67 goals and 63 assists—Saka pondered on the quick evolution of his career. He reflected on the 17 years that had passed since he started training with Nixon, recognizing the significance of those formative years in determining his future.

Saka emphasized the significance of coaches like Nixon in giving young athletes opportunity and positive experiences, acknowledging the critical role they play in developing potential in local areas.
