At this year’s FA Awards, which took place at the storied Wembley Stadium, Arsenal Academy talent was highlighted. Myles Lewis-Skelly won Scholar of the Year for his remarkable growth both on and off the field.
Arsenal Academy Manager Per Mertesacker attended the ceremony with members of the club’s development team, and speeches were given by FA Technical Director John McDermott and England men’s head coach Thomas Tuchel.
“Myles is still technically a scholar, but we felt it was vital to recognise his incredible contribution to the club”
“From his early days at under-nine level to his emergence in the first team and with England, he’s shown resilience and character every step of the way,” said Mertesacker.
Lewis-Skelly also acknowledged the vital role the Hale End team had in his trip and took a time to thank them.
Tom Smith, who played for Arsenal for 14 years before joining Colchester United in 2023, is another notable graduate of the Arsenal academy. Smith received a first-class degree in Economics from University College London while he was a professional goalie.
Tom embodies the qualities of a strong Young Gunner—someone who succeeds in all facets of life.
“Myles and Tom have both made their names for themselves via their diligence and moral fiber. It’s a fantastic representation of our academy’s values,” Per Mertesacker continued.
