Carlo Ancelotti is getting close to being able to call on a completely fit squad as Real Madrid gears up for yet another pivotal week in the outcome of their season. They have Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in their sights on Wednesday after defeating Barcelona 4-0 last week to advance to the Copa del Rey final.
Despite two absences, Los Blancos practiced on Monday, according to MD. Ferland Mendy is still getting better, and it will probably be another three weeks before he can resume his activities after suffering a calf ɪɴᴊᴜʀʏ. Due to his lack of fitness, he has missed much of the season and cannot yet be regarded as a crucial member of the team.
Mariano Diaz skipped the workout as well, although based on the 51 total minutes of action he has seen this season, Ancelotti is unlikely to have missed him much.
The primary point of contention will be who starts at left-back, Eduardo Camavinga or Nacho Fernandez. With only one spot in the starting XI up for grabs, it may possibly influence Real Madrid’s lineup against Chelsea and shed light on Ancleotti’s plans as well.
Ancelotti gives further thoughts on Real Madrid future
The Brazilian team ʀᴜᴍᴏʀ and the quarterfinals of the Champions League were topics of conversation between the Italian coach and RAI 1.
In an interview with Rai Radio 1, Carlo Ancelotti once more provided his interpretation of the details that put him in the Brazilian national team’s sphere of influence. The Real Madrid coach has emphasized that he is focused on the Spanish powerhouses and that he wants to complete his contract, which would require him to sit on the bench at the Bernabéu until June 2024.
Ancelotti future, and his son
“The future of Carlo Ancelotti?” began the coach referring to himself in the third person. “There is a nice saying that goes well at this point: ‘the wind carries the whispers.’ And it’s right, I have a contract until June 30, 2024 and I would like to respect it.
“He [his son David] is finishing the UEFA Pro coach course in Wales, which will end in May, then he will be able to coach any team. It won’t be Basel, because he feels good here and we want to stay here. The day he wants to start on his own, I think he’ll do it and he’ll do well too.”
Real Madrid in the Champions League
“We believe that we can win it, knowing that each game is a difficult and each an unpredictable obstacle. The Champions League is like that. All eight teams want to reach the final in Istanbul.”
The Milan vs Napoli quarterfinal
“In this type of match the players are going to feel the pressure, they are going to be very motivated, so you don’t have to make inspirational speeches. The talk that is going to be made is linked to the tactics of the match, trying to give clear and simple instructions to the players, so that they feel involved: it is also a way of taking off a bit of the pressure that these matches inevitably put on you.
“My conversation with Maldini was above all a wish for Milan, of which I am a fan. Actually Milan-Napoli will be a very balanced and very uncertain game. Would it be nice to meet in Istanbul? For Madrid yes, I think also for Milan, but everyone wants to get to Istanbul”.
