The 25-year-old star for the Reds has been out since October with a knee injury. After surgery on his lateral collateral ligament on Monday, it was confirmed that he will be out for another three months.
When he had a problem before Liverpool’s match with Lyon in the Dubai Super Cup on Sunday, it was decided that he needed surgery.
Even though Diaz is going through a hard time, his partner Gera, who has been with him for years, is still very hopeful about his recovery.
She showed pictures of him in his hospital bed as he started the long process of getting back to work.
“Right now, you need patience and strength. But family love is the most important thing.
“As always, we are all here for you. And we will see you rise stronger, we love you.”
Colombia did not make it to the World Cup, so Diaz did not play in Qatar. On Sunday, Diaz’s manager, Klopp, said, “It’s clear that he’s not in the best mental place.”
“It was a big letdown for all of us, including him. It really didn’t matter at all during training.
“And he felt something. The next day, he didn’t feel it much, but we wanted to be very careful.
So we said, “Come on, let’s take a good look.” Then we got the news, which hit us right in the face, but that’s it.
After the World Cup, Liverpool’s first game back is on December 22 in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City.
Then, on Christmas Day, they play Aston Villa in the Premier League. Four days later, they host Leicester.
Man Utd take centre stage for £135m transfer after reasons why Liverpool pulled the plug surface
It’s no secret that Liverpool’s top transfer target was Jude Bellingham going into what is shaping up to be a huge summer at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the England star, and it looked like he was happy to pass up midfielders in order to sign Bellingham later.
With players like Arthur Melo, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and maybe even James Milner leaving (their loans are up), rebuilding the midfield has gone from being a nice-to-have to a must.
Liverpool has been interested in Bellingham all season, but they have reluctantly given up on their pursuit.
James Pearce of The Athletic, Dominic King of the Daily Mail, and the Times, Telegraph, and Guardian all said the same thing. In short, Liverpool’s search for Bellingham is over. The Guardian explained why: the cost of signing Bellingham would take too much away from the club’s overall plans to change its team. In other words, Liverpool can’t spend most of their money on one player when they need to bring in so many new players.
The Telegraph said that the transfer fee would be £115 million, but the Guardian said that Dortmund would only sell for £135 million. Both of those numbers are before extras like agent’s fees and the player’s sky-high salary.
No matter how much Dortmund wants, it is now clear that the Reds can’t spend more than £100 million on a single player. They are also thinking about how likely it is that they won’t be able to play in the Champions League next season.
The Guardian said that Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s top people to move quickly in the market this summer so that they don’t miss out on players like Aurelien Tchouameni again like they did last summer. The Reds did try to buy the French destroyer, but Real Madrid beat them to it.
Bellingham is no longer one of the players Liverpool wants to sign in the next few months, but they are still interested in five other midfielders.
The Guardian put Mason Mount of Chelsea, Moises Caicedo of Brighton, Matheus Nunes of Wolves, and Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich on the list. The Telegraph’s report had a lot of the same names, but it also had Conor Gallagher on it.
