Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, believes that the Portuguese defender will complement the manner of play he is implementing at the Emirates Stadium. Joao Cancelo departed Manchester City in the previous winter transfer window to join Bayern Munich on a loan with an option to buy until June 2023. It appears that the Bundesliga powerhouses will not activate this clause. Since joining Bayern Munich, the Portuguese fullback has been in a foul temper, to be fair. This performance, however, did not convince Bayern to spend 70 million euros to acquire this athlete.

Joao Cancelo joins Manchester City from Juventus in the 2019 summer. Cancelo’s performance in a Man City uniform has been exemplary thus far. Under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, the Portuguese player rose to become one of the best fullbacks in the world. Since the beginning of this season, numerous sources have suggested that Joao Cancelo and Pep Guardiola are at odds, making it difficult for the 29-year-old player to return to the Etihad Stadium squad.

In reality, Arsenal’s interest in Joao Cancelo is not uncommon. In light of Kieran Tierney’s departure, the London Gunners are searching for a left-back to challenge Oleksandr Zinchenko. Moreover, Arsenal and Manchester City have a strong commercial relationship in the transfer market. Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko wore half blue in Manchester and half red and white in London during the summer of 2017. These two players are crucial contributors to Arsenal’s rise and title competition with Man City this season. Arteta appears to be hopeful that Cancelo will follow suit.

In addition to Arsenal, Barcelona is also said to be trying very hard to get the signature of the Portuguese full-back.
