As Manchester United suffered a humiliating loss to Newcastle, Antony had a challenging day. The Brazilian winger was well-managed by Newcastle’s left-back Dan Burn.
Despite Dan Burn’s insistence that Antony is a “world class” player, the Manchester United star is once again drawing flak after his team’s embarrassing loss to Newcastle.
The Magpies defeated the Red Devils 2-0 on Sunday, allowing Eddie Howe’s team to overtake them. United put on an abjectly bad display, and they have yet to defeat another top-nine team away from home.
Burn, who was playing left-back for the hosts, was Antony’s opponent when the game got underway on the right wing. At 62 minutes, he was removed from the game, and Jadon Sancho entered the game as United suffered a sad loss.
Only two of the Brazilian’s five dribbling efforts were successful, and he failed to cross the ball accurately and only had one shot that was on goal. Burn, however, demonstrated how difficult Antony is for defenses in the aftermath of their struggle during the loss.
Burn described the players as “tough players, obviously, world class players. Antony’s given us a few excellent games, extremely skilful.” “It was just that additional emotion that sometimes comes out when I play at home, and maybe it goes a little too far,” the player said.
Burn praised the caliber of United’s attacking players, but United manager Ten Hag issued a harsh criticism of his team. He was particularly scathing of the аɡɡгеꜱꜱivе Red Devils players, who managed just one shot on goal throughout the entire game.
The Dutchman told Sky Sports, “I hate to say it, but they were better today – notably their resolve, emotion, and desire. They wanted to win more so they won.
“We had our chances, but you have to pursue your goals with the same tenacity they did. It wasn’t adequate. We gave them far too many opportunities. You must play every game with all of your might and be hungry.
“I don’t want to focus on one guy because it had nothing to do with one person, it was about team performance and we didn’t break them, but I think our offensive game was not good enough.
“With Antony, we had a chance over the right side in the first half, but over the left side, not much happened. The result of this game is that. The biggest opportunity was for Anthony Martial, but it wasn’t good enough because we didn’t produce many decent chances.
As part of a double substitution by United manager Ten Hag, Antony was replaced, but only three minutes after the Brazilian left the field, Joe Willock’s close-range header gave Newcastle the lead.
Prior to the final whistle, Ten Hag made three additional substitutions, but none of them had the intended impact. Callum Wilson’s goal off of a Kieran Trippier free kick gave Newcastle the three points.
Antony’s last act before being substituted vs Newcastle leaves Man Utd fans exasperated
After an hour, spectators began to lose patience with Antony’s play, and Erik ten Hag substituted him out as a subpar Manchester United fell to Newcastle 2-0 in the Premier League.
When Anthony slowed down Newcastle’s onslaught in his final act against Manchester United, the supporters were furious.
At St James’ Park on Sunday, headers from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson earned the Magpies a well-deserved 2-0 victory as the Red Devils were still looking for an early goal in the second half. Beginning the game on his preferred right side, Antony engaged Newcastle left-back Dan Burn and frequently caused difficulties for the home team.
About the hour mark, however, Erik ten Hag decided that the Brazilian winger had served his purpose and substituted Jadon Sancho for him. Anthony Martial also replaced Wout Weghorst. Antony’s final contribution was to hinder a United onslaught, which infuriated the high-seated patrons at Saint James’.
Red Devils fans were as disappointed with his teammates for failing to take back a game they had already conceded early. Newcastle earned a deserving victory with to two headers from Willock and Wilson, moving them above of United into third position.
Prior to Wednesday’s critical match at home against Brentford, United would completely fall out of the Champions League spots if Spurs can at least draw away at Everton on Monday. The Red Devils’ last Premier League victory came on February 19 against Leicester, a game they easily should have lost.
United star Gary Neville admitted to Sky Sports that the Magpies deserved all three points and could not deny it “Newcastle had you worried at halftime that they would blow their chance, and Manchester United occasionally switches its first-half and second-half performances.
“But, Erik ten Hag’s team has failed to make a difference in the second half, and they have really let him down tonight. Newcastle has performed admirably, but they have been thoroughly defeated. Newcastle had 21 shots, but Manchester United only had one of their six go in the right place. If you’re a supporter of Manchester United today, you have no cause for complaint—you’ve been soundly defeated—after 41 touches in the opposing box.”
Shay Given, a former goalie for Newcastle, provided his assessment following the game and stated: “We had mentioned how significant this outcome would be before the game. I believe Gary Neville correctly predicted it in his commentary, Eddie Howe was able to smell ƄlooԀ and made wise adjustments before the second goal put an end to the game.
“It’s a special day for these fans as well; they’ll be enjoying themselves after the game, brilliant three points,” the commentator said. “It’s a brilliant result in the grand scheme of Champions League football, the boost this will give to the squad, to the players, and hopefully they can get the job done and finish top four.”
