In a refreshingly open interview conducted after the game, Jack Grealish addressed the VAR’s penalty ruling.
Following a VAR review, Manchester United was given a contentious penalty in the FA Cup final.
Grealish was found guilty of handling the ball inside the 18-yard box, and referee Paul Tierney was prompted to review the incident on the pitch side monitor.
Typically, a penalty was awarded, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted to tie the score at 1-1 and send Stefan Ortega the wrong way.
Ilkay Gundogan’s goal in the second half, fortunately for Grealish, was sufficient to secure victory and the trophy and spare the Englishman’s face.
Grealish, like many other supporters around the world, didn’t believe it was a penalty, though.
After the final horn, Grealish told the BBC, “I truly don’t know how it’s a penalty. I’m not even staring at the ball because my head has distracted me from it.
“I can see if I’m looking at a cross and trying to block it, but Gundo saved me anyway.”
Fans instantly praised his honesty on social media.
Someone commented: “Love the honesty from Grealish in his interview there, talking about the pen decision, refreshing and something rarely seen in the modern era.”
Loved Grealish’s interpretation of the penalty, a third person added. He is an American gem, and his post-game interviews are excellent.
One more user said: “I love how Grealish gives a personal interview, only guy who’s not a robot.”
