Alexis Mac Allister, a teammate at Brighton, may be on the verge of making the same move from the south coast to Merseyside that Adam Lallana did nine years ago when he moved from Southampton to Liverpool.
According to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano on Monday, the 24-year-old has achieved a “full agreement” with the Reds and may be close to completing his transfer to Anfield.
The former LFC midfielder, who had been impressed by the Argentine during his nation’s World Cup victory the month before, spoke with Graham Hunter back in January about the kind of player his younger teammate had been for the Seagulls.
Mac Allister, according to Lallana, “is so pure in how he plays, the way he lends the football, and the way he uses others. He plays without any hint of selfishness.
“Watching him throughout the World Cup was really special. He didn’t play at first, but after getting used to it, he proved his worth and played so brilliantly that he had to play. Finally, to see Messi searching for him. Like, Messi was seeking him out to link with and play…
“Alexis’ function nearly perfectly mirrors that of Messi. Messi would occupy higher spots when he was deep. Messi would sink when he was high. That merely demonstrates how much he comprehends.
“OK, he’s not the fastest or the strongest, but that’s irrelevant because up here [points to forehead], he’s like Modric. He is incredibly intelligent. He is aware that nothing or anyone is faster than a football. Alexis fits into that mold.
It was a telling look into Mac Allister’s strengths from Lallana, and maybe we’ll see those strengths soon displayed in a Liverpool shirt.
It’s a very good sign when players with the names Lionel Messi and Luka Modric are used to describe his style of play.
