There had been a lot of speculation regarding Kyrie Irving joining LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers for the better part of a year.
As a result, it came as a shock when it was revealed that Irving had actually contacted LeBron about moving to the Dallas Mavericks and was lobbying for the Mavs to sign him. Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, an insider, now claims to be aware of James’ response to Irving’s request.
“Heard that Kyrie invited LeBron to join the Mavericks in Dallas.
‘I’ll think about it,’ LeBron said over the phone.
That is the sort of answer you would anticipate from James if we are to believe Robinson when he made these claims. He was probably not going to decline a friend’s request immediately soon, but he also didn’t make any promises.
LeBron wants to play with Kyrie, as has been stated numerous times at this point, but is he willing to leave Los Angeles to do so? LeBron would have to move his family, who are currently well-established in Los Angeles, and Shannon Sharpe thinks that LeBron wouldn’t want to do that is why he wouldn’t go to Dallas. LeBron simply cannot leave Los Angeles at this moment given that Bronny James will also be playing for USC this season.
The Mavs would only accept a LeBron James trade from the Lakers if they could also acquire Luka Doncic
The Mavs simply lacked the resources necessary to make it done, which made the thought that LeBron would wind up in Dallas even more improbable. With the exception of Luka Doncic, they have no one on their roster that the Lakers would really want, having traded away some of their solid role players to get Kyrie.
Jovan Buha, a team insider, claimed that the Mavs wouldn’t consider a deal involving Doncic even though the Lakers would. It makes you think there is almost no chance this move will take place this summer. LeBron’s best option if he truly wants to move to Dallas would be to decline his player option for the upcoming season and sign with Dallas as a free agent.
