According to sources, Liverpool is investigating what it would take to move Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina to the Premier League.
Sofyan Amrabat, who is she?
Amrabat is a defensive midfielder who joined the Artemio Franchi Stadium in 2020 from Hellas Verona. He now plays football there. Vincenzo Italiano’s contract is slated to expire at the end of the upcoming season, giving him one last chance to make a profit if he doesn’t want to lose his best possession for nothing after a year.
The Moroccan international, who played 660 minutes of football at the 2022 World Cup, was his country’s most consistent outfield player. He shone for his country, helping them go all the way to the semifinals, and his performances caught Jurgen Klopp’s eye back in January.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, the Reds were considering a move for the 26-year-old as a backup plan to some of their more well-known targets at the time, such as Jude Bellingham. Although they ultimately decided against a move, it sounds like they may have since had a change of heart.
Liverpool is acquiring Amrabat
Sport Witness reports that Liverpool are “attentive” to Amrabat’s predicament and have “sounded out” the midfielder over a potential summer transfer to Anfield.
The player wants to leave Fiorentina and start over elsewhere “as soon as possible,” but it is unknown whether Fiorentina has set a price tag of €30m (£25m) plus goals for him. It is also unclear whether the board would be willing to pay this sum.
Amrabat might be a useful addition for Klopp.
Amrabat would be a terrific addition for FSG since he could cover the backline and is stronger in the natural defensive element of his game than Liverpool, who would be aware of this given that he only had one assist in all competitions last season.
The native of Huizen, who ranked in the top 95 percentile for pass completion, is cool under pressure and enjoys getting his hands dirty. He averaged 1.3 tackles per league game in the previous season, stopping the threat before it could do any damage.
The reporter Carlo Garganese’s description of Fiorentina’s “monster” as having the potential to play in eight different places on the field, including all over the center and even in defense, makes him a handy alternative to have available. He would also provide fantastic diversity to Klopp’s team.
Last but not least, Amrabat and Ibrahima Konate, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Rhys Williams all have the same agent, CAA Stellar, thus this pre-existing relationship that their representative has with the club may provide them a slight advantage if they try to close a contract this summer.
