Liverpool holds crisis talks after losing three games in a row since beating Manchester United 7-0.
Liverpool was beaten 4-1 by Manchester City after their disappointing display at the Etihad Stadium. Jurgen Klopp’s side has lost three games in a row since a 7-0 win over Manchester United. Liverpool has held crisis talks before their trip to Stamford Bridge to meet Chelsea in the middle of this week, the Daily Mail (UK) reports today (3-4).
Liverpool’s “p/a/i/n” became duller and more intense when Jurgen Klopp’s team fell seriously. A month and three defeats since eliminating Manchester United, Liverpool now “don’t even know where they are”.
Last Saturday night, Manchester City played better but Liverpool played worse than their level. The Kop’s midfield “lost”, while the defense played like a dream. The Kop have taken the fewest shots in a Premier League game since 2011.
After the game, coach Jurgen Klopp bitterly said that Man City had “shown mercy” to his team. That shows, Klopp believes Man City can make his team lose even worse.
Now, in the middle of the week, two teams in crisis, Liverpool and Chelsea, will face each other at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea just fired coach Graham Potter this morning (April 3), and Liverpool also held a meeting to find a way to fix their problems.
Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk r/e/v/e/a/l/e/d: “It was a big day. If you lose the way we lost, then there are bound to be some hard things to ᵴɑү. Change must come quickly when we meet Chelsea on Tuesday (UK time). We are trying. The first half against Man City was quite balanced…”.
Indeed, Liverpool played fair with Man City in the first half but collapsed quickly in the second half and conceded a goal 53 seconds after the game restarted. Since then, Liverpool “has no place to hide”. Man City plays football as “joking” with Liverpool players.
Coach Jurgen Klopp said sadly: “We were lucky that Man City was not in the most ‘greedy mood’. There is nothing good to ᵴɑү about this match.”
Mohamed Salah appeared on the electronic board in the fourth minute to help Liverpool take a 1-0 lead. But with 20 minutes left in the game, Klopp’s team was 2 goals ahead of Man City. Klopp seemed to have given up when the score was 3-1.
You simply cannot save Salah if you have any faith in turning the ball around, but Klopp replaced the team’s No. 1 hope at the break in the 70th minute. Four minutes later, City scored the decisive goal. fixed the result 4-1.
Standing at the edge of his technical area, Klopp seemed incredulous as Andrew Robertson tried to follow a ball he would never reach, leaving Liverpool’s left flank and r/e/v/e/a/l/i/n/g a vast void. Just a few seconds later, Julian Alvarez put the ball into the net of Liverpool to level the score 1-1 for Man City.
Similarly, Trent Alexander-Arnold defended like an amateur in that Man City equalizer. While the Liverpool players rose to catch offside, Trent alone stood under the defense for Jack Grealish to comfortably receive the ball to break the offside trap and assist Alvarez to score. At the fourth table of Man City, Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne also freely “joked” Trent before Grealish scored.
With such a defense, it is not s/u/r/p/r/i/s/i/n/g that Liverpool often gives a lot of “big opportunities” to the opponent with a frequency of 3 times/per game. Liverpool plays too openly to help opponents “eat whatever they can”. How to deal with this has been Klopp’s biggest challenge in eight years at Anfield.
And Liverpool had an urgent meeting to solve the problem. It r/e/m/a/i/n/s to be seen whether Klopp can afford to close that gap. It needs to be resolved shortly if Liverpool wants to break into the Premier League Top 4 and qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season…
